I would love it if you and Jaime could come over to my house to have your round table discussion. It would save me the trouble of typing my email and clicking a button on my mouse.
I do find it pretty interesting that people don't want to simply type in an e-mail address and click, but want to ask me to do that EXACT thing on another media site so they can listen.
Regarding isometric tension: a friend of mine has been studying an obscure martial art called bagua for several years off and on. He's been getting into it pretty heavily lately. Being a Chinese martial art, it does not place much emphasis on weight training and the like, but it uses a shit-ton of isometric movements. There are three main parts to practicing bagua: practicing individual strikes and forms (which are just a series of basic strikes strung together), strengthening postures (isometrics), and circle walking, which consists of walking in a circle around an imaginary pole while holding your body in roughly the same position as the strengthening posture, and periodically changing direction very rapidly with a strike, and going back into the strengthening posture.
Previously, he had been focused almost entirely on the strikes and forms, but recently he began to focus much more on the strengthening postures, and particularly on the circle walking. He told me that he has felt himself to be much stronger than he used to be after doing so, especially as a result of the circle walking, which has strengthened both his hips and his midsection. One principle that bagua holds in common with many martial arts, but which it takes to a ridiculous extreme, is that it thinks of the human body as a whip, so that when you throw a strike, it's not just your arms and shoulders behind the punch, it's your whole goddamn body. Strong hips and a strong midsection are necessary for this kind of fighting; you need strong hips to generate power, and a strong midsection to connect that power to allow it to flow it through your fists.
No but you def should do more of these, I really liked your form assesment bit on Jamie's squatting. Maybe you guys could take some reader Q's and bring em up during another roundtable? That'd be awesome.
We are going to do some podcasts Alexandro (awesome name btw). A lot of off the cuff talking, but training stuff too, and some Q&A's as well. In fact I'll prolly get some of that together this week.
Awesome session, thanks for the upload! The sign-up was meh, 'cause it doesn't require a confirmation. Can put in anything, and takes 10 seconds. Only complaint was that Jamie was much more quiet than you, so it took some tweaking to find a balance between you yelling at Jamie, while he whispers back in an effort to calm you down.
Can you upload this to something like mediafire that DOESNT require me to sign up for an account?
ReplyDeleteCould you also host the file on mediafire/soundcloud or something? It's telling me to sign up for an account before being able to listen/download.
ReplyDeleteWill do this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteCould you also give me a back rub?

Anyway, something to think about.

Great reply Maru. Thanks for that.
DeleteHaha I said that you sound like Robert Downey Jr before. Although Iron Man is probably more fitting.
ReplyDeletePretty sure if you tried an english accent that you'd just end up sounding like sherlock holmes
ReplyDeleteJesus, is it really that bad? I'll give it a shot then.
DeleteYou have a beautiful speaking voice (no homo).
